Ursa Minor, der Kleine Bär, früher auch "Nordbär" genannt

Cynosoura = Hundeschwanz (auch Einzel-Bezeichnung für den Polarstern), war ebenfalls auch Bezeichnung für den großen Bären.

Polarstern in Ursa Minor (auch Welt-Nagel, Nordnagel, Nabel der Erde, Nabe, nave, navel, sanskr. nabhi, Nabel, Radnabe, Nabe des den Himmel umkreisenden Rads). Der den Himmelsnordpol markierende Stern gilt seit alters her als wichtigster Stern am Himmel
Auf Tahiti nannte man ihn früher "The pillar to fish by - die Säule, bei der man angelt", in Tukestan markierte eine "Kupfersäule den Nabel der Erde"
Die Kirgisen nennen den Polarstern den "eisernen Pfahl, an dem 2 Pferde sind, die von den 7 Sternen im Sternbild des großen Bären verfolgt werden"
Die Sterne Kochab und Pherkad hießen ebenfalls einmal "Hüter des Pols", der Stern Kochab kommt sogar in der Bibel vor.
